Tsunami

Yesterday was clear.
The air was still,
The trees were settled,
And the grass sat upright.

It’s usually clear
With occasional smog.
But even in the smog,
Lies the stillness that was there before.

Bliss. Stillness.

The kind of stillness that resides
In certainty -
Without regret
In contentment-
Without inconsistency
In diversion -
Without order

The smog never stays for long,
But still brings the memories of
Hurricanes.
Storms.

The smog reminds us
What it can become:
The rush of the hurricanes
The violence of storms

The longing for certitude
The need for comfort
The rush of emotion
The purging of rain

Although most days are clear
And some days are just smog,
It still comes in waves,

And today was a tsunami.
