indulgence

Sputtered onto glass
within the cavity
and coated for protection.
This creates the only way
we see ourselves - the looking

glass. And we create this world en masse
that lets this item prove our worth. Depravity
from media, as we mistake those "Likes" for real affection.
We use this piece for our indulgence. Allay
the flaws and faults we try so hard to hide. Overlooking

the simple paint that hides the last
of powder used to make it. Gravity
is easier described that this phenomenon with our reflection.
Fascination with this hunk of glass will always stay,

creating strife within ourselves, losing all our footing.

12:30 pm

On this metal bench, I can't help but notice
the stream of beings pouring out of that building
and into the street; seemingly unaware of each story
that surrounds them.

The stream of beings pouring out of that building
everyday at 12:30pm
only exchange quick glances and held doors
to those who are lucky.

Everyday at 12:30pm
the red-haired girl with the blue backpack
calls her family to just to make sure
her brothers got to school on time.

On this metal bench, I can't help but notice
that no one else seems to pay mind to people like
the red-haired girl with the blue backpack
that actually has a story to tell.

Footprints

The memory of you sends a chill
coursing through my spine, strong like the breeze
of hurricanes that make blades of grass
curtesy toward the slow dimming sunlight.
The grass is a reminder of damp-
ness that surrounds us, even if we go.

I chose to leave that night, when the breeze
was so sharp you heard the screams of grass
as they are forced to the ground. Your light
shined on me as you watched me leave damp
footprints on your lawn - that's where you'll go
when you long to see me. It's the chill

you feel when you see the spot of grass
where our lips first locked and parted. Light
from your window always hits the damp
space to remind you why I must go.
It's hard to think when the only chill
between us was the slight breeze

of the summer we shared with moonlight.
But instead, our memories are damp-
ned by our harsh words. I let you go
so you can enjoy the taste of chill-
ed drinks on a hot day with the breeze
blowing through your veins. To feel the grass

between your toes and savor the damp
footprints of those free from deceit. Go
find yourself among the winds that chill
you down to the bone. That’s where the breeze
will remind you that you were the grass
And I was the hurricane. The light

in my hurricane was meant to go
and take you by storm, making the chill
of my light the last standing. Your breeze
let me in and you became the grass
willfully curtseying toward my light.

Your light has gone, and your soul left damp.

Turkey Day

Noodles of Swirl in a Bowl,
Casserole then caught my eye.
Meats… gravy…Mouths watering…
"What'd ya Bring, some apple pie?"

Tummies are rumbling so loud,
Mom is proud, she wears a grin.
Everyone waits till they hear

"Grab a beer, and lets dig in!"

Trapped

“Try and move your fingers”
I’ve been trying for the last hour.

Trapped.

“Take a big breath”
My ribs expanding to the point of rupture

Trapped.

“Can you feel when I touch your arm?”
Pins and needles rush over my entirety.

Trapped.

“Follow my hand with your eyes”
Clouds of white film is all I can see

Trapped.

“She’s gone”

Paralysis.

Tsunami

Yesterday was clear.
The air was still,
The trees were settled,
And the grass sat upright.

It’s usually clear
With occasional smog.
But even in the smog,
Lies the stillness that was there before.

Bliss. Stillness.

The kind of stillness that resides
In certainty -
Without regret
In contentment-
Without inconsistency
In diversion -
Without order

The smog never stays for long,
But still brings the memories of
Hurricanes.
Storms.

The smog reminds us
What it can become:
The rush of the hurricanes
The violence of storms

The longing for certitude
The need for comfort
The rush of emotion
The purging of rain

Although most days are clear
And some days are just smog,
It still comes in waves,

And today was a tsunami.
